More than meets the eye

Not only do I feel like taking a nap, I also feel like going home and finding my divx Transformers episodes. I guess that's what I get for reading that stupid wish list.

Nap time!

I'm moving to Spain. I can speak enough Spanish to order food, which is what matters, right? The really important thing is that they have siestas, which means I get hours for lunch and I'm supposed to take a nap afterwards.
Damn Americans and their hurried lives.
Now, who's going with me?

Serial dating

Like I told Mal, I'm feeling back to normal. Went out not once, but twice, last night. Told some good stories, heard some, and ate equally good food on the second trip out. Now, if I can just convince that guy that he should hang out with me a bunch, I'll be doing pretty great.
Talked to that David fellow last night for an hour, and it looks like that's going to work out alright. Which I suppose is good ... right?
Now I'm off to do some of the writing I have to accomplish today ... *icks* And I'm hungry already. Food and boys are going to be the death of me.

Supporting service

So, like usual, the U.S. government wants to take away money from programs which better society and increase defense spending. (Don't forget — it's much easier to blow up a country than to send over volunteers to change it.) For FY 2003, Congress allocated $275 million for AmeriCorps grants, of which $100 million would be available only for educational awards. This amount is a 30 percent reduction in grant funding from FY 2002. The cut will reduce the number of AmeriCorps positions altogether, as well as leaving individuals without a job they were scheduled to begin in August.
What to do?

I think I'm in love

This makes me giddy. And if you need it in more simplistic terms, try this. If you're still confused or unimpressed, you're dumb.

Just call me Harry Potter

So, like magic, I got invited out to the movies last night. Worst movie ever, but good company. Good times, good times. Now, ah, I gotta get a story done. Uh-oh.

Dumb fun

So I felt compelled to play this, and the results of the first time I played are worth posting:
Your husband's name is mallory and you have 0 children. You're a web designer who drives to work every day in an orange Gallardo.
It's truly a wonderful life when you consider the countless romantic nights you have spent with mallory in your shack in Massachusetts.

Oh, and yeah, I did use your name, silly Irishman. Whatcha gonna do 'bout it?

Personals ...

Wanted: Intelligent, funny, and cute guy or girl who thinks I'm those three things too.

Now,why is that so hard to find? And since I know what I have is rapidly falling apart, why am I still putting up with it?
But CONA is coming up, and that means six days during which I can just think. Of course, it's also six days during which I'll be surrounded by nice looking, smart, politically involved people. Not a good place for me to go with a bad relationship. We'll see how that goes.
Until then, I guess I'll just, well, work and hope someone wants to hang out with me at night. Maybe the guy from B&N will call. And I'll go see Caleb play Wednesday ... And there's the Greek festival Friday, if I can find someone to go with me ... Well, okay, things don't look too bad if I look ahead. But right now, I'm wicked bored.
Written Sunday while deprived of the Internet.

Is it ever not lunchtime?

Can I eat cinnamon rolls for lunch? Who's going to stop me if I can't? Oh yeah, I think I know where I'm going for lunch.

Breakfast of champions

There is, I believe, something very wrong about having chocolate covered doughnuts and Mountain Dew for breakfast. But since my plan for the summer is to pig out on Krispy Kremes and Ale-8s (both of which are unavailable in Boston), I must be on the right track.
But that brings up a question I find quite important: why does no one make maple-frosted doughnuts anymore? They're my favorites, and alas, nearly impossible to find. Maybe Dunkin' Donuts up north have them. That would be sweet, since I get a 10 percent discount on them with my student ID. At those low prices, I may be able to gain that fabled "freshman fifteen." Hah.

Civilized Urbanization

Civilized urbanization:
'PROGRESS' in the name of man ...
? steals ? away memories
immortalizes them;
wrapping them in concrete
their silent voices cry
   !out! in fluted pillars of
steel ?

Asking humanity; WHY
  "don't they hear it anymore?"

Outside my house

Outside my house it smells like spring and soap, and hundreds of things I've come to expect and even more that I haven't. The grass is sparse and coarse and the dirt shows, cracked like parchment and waiting for the rain.

The yard turns into a murky puddle when it rains. The rain brings out that spring smell - that musty, earthy smell. Trudging through the puddles streaming across the sidewalk, I watch the little eddies my feet cause as I inhale deeply, breathing in the rich smell. The water swirls away from my shoes in little whirlpools as I make my way up the concrete stairs, a darker gray from the drenching.

I pause on the landing, looking at the rain-caused chaos in the yard below. Raindrops roll off my nose and splash unknowingly on my clothes as I become fixated, fascinated by my surroundings.

I blink, and my world comes into focus. I step slowly up the rest of the stairs and to our door, contemplating without purpose the border between wet and dry on our porch. I walk inside, dripping, wet, and cold - but smiling.

But I still don't understand the soap.

Welcome

Well, I'm not too sure how to begin. I'm launching this page because I'm sick of using deviantart, which is nice for artwork, but the support for text-based posts is severly lacking. So I'm going to use this site to post my various writing pieces, and I may just post random thoughts evey once in a while. If you read something on here and want to comment about it, you can feel free to IM me or send me an e-mail. As long as it's nice. If you have something mean to say, keep your mouth shut. I'm fragile.
Peace.
