Open mouth, insert foot

"As someone who's spoken out in strongly moral terms, what's your view on homosexuality?" a reporter asked the president.

"Yeah, I am mindful that we're all sinners," Mr. Bush replied. "And I caution those who may try to take the speck out of their neighbor's eye when they got a log in their own. I think it's very important for our society to respect each individual, to welcome those with good hearts, to be a welcoming country."

From The New York Times
When was the last time I mentioned I think the president is the dumbest person in America? You're right, it was probably in the last five minutes ...

Give 'em hell, Howard

"If being a liberal means a balanced budget, I'm a liberal," Dr. Howard Dean said, delighted at the opening. "If being a liberal means adding jobs instead of subtracting them, then, please, call me a liberal."
"I don't care what label you put on me," he finished, "as long as you call me Mr. President!"

Betting on terrorism

Oh, wow. Why abandon this? It has to be the coolest thing I've ever heard of.
"I'm putting $50,000 on North Korea blowing the U.S. to bits."
This makes me want to be a stockbroker more than Boiler Room did. It's a shame they're not going to do it.

Makin' friends

I went out to Tekworld again last night, and met a bass player by the name of Evan Brewer. He plays in a kick ass band called Submethod, and he happens to be pretty cool, too. He gave me a lecture on eating flax seeds. Check out their stuff here.
Now it's off to Six Flags to listen to tha boys play.

I dream
of
quiet, sleepless
nights
in bed with you.
Talking —
about the ways
of the world.
Holding eachother
like that
can protect us
from the things
we say.

Ace-straight

I think I'm fostering an addiction to poker. Not necessarily to gambling, per se, but just to poker. I've been thinking about playing Texas Hold-em since ... well, since we stopped playing last night.
Not healthy. But hey, ah, does anybody have a deck of cards?

Dream girl

So this damn Civic pulls out in front of me today while I'm cruising down 155 at about 65 mph — silver in color, clear tail lights. I tap the brakes, shoo the driver along, and eventually get up to speed again. Then a big maroon van gets in the way, the Civic goes around, I go around, then I chase the Civic down the highway doing something like 95.
Now, of course, the driver has my attention. We both pull into Hatmaker's, and this amazingly attractive 18-year-old chika gets out of the car. Maybe 5'4", 105 pounds, short, black hair ...
And now I'm kicking myself for not saying anything to her. Sonuvabitch.

Call me Molly Millions

I'm starting to think I should be in a William Gibson novel. My body sucks in food and essentially demolishes it in minutes, I'm not gaining weight or becoming out-of-shape (per se), my skin is hyper-sensitive (I'm not complaining) ... I twitch when I hear certain frequencies, et cetera. There was more to this list when I started it at Jacobs two nights ago, but I forgot the rest. Oh, oh, I remembered one more — I can see better in the dark then I can in the light. Now, if I could just get slicey-things in my hands ...
I am, however, starting to need some sleep.
Congrats to Orion for buying his eMac — he owes me lots of playing time on it. Software, anyone?

Crashing stolen cars

I read through hundreds of stolen car police reports. Many of those stolen cars are wrecked shortly thereafter. The question is why. Are crooks so nervous after a heist that they loose control? Something to investigate, I suppose. And if some fuck scoops me, I'll bust 'em up.

Gadgetry!

I found the coolest piece of freeware to ever exist: Clutter. Good only for Mac users, this nifty program finds CD covers on amazon.com for your iTunes collection. And the appropriate cover appears in the dock when you have Clutter open. Egads!
If I wasn't poor, I'd send them money.

Roundtable: High for the day

Cheerwine from Heine Brother's right down the street. My low: that it cost me $1.50.

America and pot

What has been the result of legalizing marijuana? Is everyone getting stoned? No. In America today 38 percent of adolescents have smoked pot — in Holland, it's only 20 percent.
What Amsterdam police did was take the glamour out of drug use, explains Judge Gray. The Dutch minister of health has said, "We've succeeded in making pot boring."

Seeing red

It is the discrepancy between the very rich and the very poor which bothers me. Maybe my opinion is biased because I come from a moderately low-income family. I can't morally accept the idea of a society in which a few people have more money than they will ever spend, yet many people cannot afford mere necessities.
I know it goes against the grain of human nature, but there are people in society who would be willing to divy out the money equally — or at least nearly equal — so that everyone could live comfortably. Unfortunately, we are not the rich.

Sleepytime

So ... I'm supposedly 'napping,' but I got distracted. I thought of something I wanted to post on another blog and had to get up. And while already sitting down in the chair, I figured I'd do my civic duty and write on here, too.
Boys make my head hurt. Golly. They're mean, then they're nice, and then they want to cook you dinner... I don't understand any of them at all.
I'm going to go see T3 tonight. Hopefully it won't be as bad as The Hulk was. But even if it is, I'll still be kickin' with Jacob, which is usually pretty fun. Except for that he's mean to me. Eight isn't a bad number, alright?
On another note, I gotta get some sleep tonight so I'll be ready to pah-tay tomorrow night. Hahaha.

I'm back

After spending what seems as if it was an eternity and concurrently a mere five minutes, I'm back from my last trip to the mountain. Rest assured, I'm going to tell the tale as soon as I have time to write it.
Sometimes, tho', it's good to be home. Thanks for welcoming me back, Orion — you made my day significantly better.
Namaste.
