College + work = sad

I'm a little upset no one ever told me college would require me to do so much work. I miss just doing powerpoints like I did in high school. I'm going to link to my COM research paper for my midterm once it is finished. Ugh.
On another note ... Jacob will be here in less than nine hours. How exciting is that?

D.C. is next stop on commuter newspaper free-for-all - American Press Institute: "

Washington is the latest in a series of North American cities to get giveaway papers aimed primarily at young non-readers. In Philadelphia, Boston and Toronto, commuters can grab free copies of Metro, a tab published by European publisher Metro International SA that offers a mix of wire news, short local coverage, weather and comics in a colorful package. And the Cincinnati Enquirer and Louisville Courier-Journal may introduce similar products later in the year."

Talking Like a Firebrand, Dean Walks a Fine Line: "THORNTON, Iowa, Oct. 23 — As Howard Dean walked over to pet the 600-pound hogs on a visit to a family farm here on Wednesday morning, he blurted out his imaginary headline, 'Governor speaks with Washington lobbyists.' "

Winter wonderland

It snowed this morning. They called it "snow showers," I call them flurries. The fact of the matter is that there was snow. And it was falling. And it's Oct. 23 and 37 degrees outside. This is weird.

With Flare, Apple Extends Its Reach Into Online Music

So almost cool. Apple puts out iTunes and the Apple music store for Windows. If you give them all our fun toys, Steve-o, maybe they'll switch. Or not.

But it almost doesn't matter, because Apple makes up for it with the iTunes for Windows ad on it's homepage.

Pity the Poor Gator, Lost in All the Roar: "Think about it: ordinarily, a 65-pound alligator in an apartment would be news. But put a tiger in the same apartment, and the alligator is all but ignored. Not to mention the indignity of being mistaken for a caiman. That is enough to give an alligator an inferiority complex. And alligators are not accustomed to inferiority complexes any more than they are accustomed to apartment complexes. An alligator is accustomed to waddling around thinking, to the extent that alligators think coherent thoughts that can be translated into words, attention must be paid — to me, right now."

24 hours in 20 minutes

Well, I started work at The Metro last night. I worked from 5 p.m. 'til midnight, writing briefs, proofing and .pdf'ing. I returned home at 12:30 a.m., feeling very worn and old as I sat down to do my homework in the lounge. I shared with them my wisdom: get out of the "biz" before they get stuck. It's amazing how something this stressful is what I really love. I missed being in a newsroom and I'm glad to be back, but I fear these kids here at school have no idea what they're stepping into. I need a nap.

Swing, batter, swing

While I was excited about protesting and rioting while in college, I didn't really expect for my first riot to be after a Sox game. Shows what I know. BU emptied out on to Landsdowne to party hard by Fenway park ... and break into it, tear up everything nearby, flip cars, burn Yankees insignia ... Zoomass can't even top this one.
